Terms of Service
Last updated 24 August 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] (“we”, “us”) covering the Puzzle Lantern mobile app and this website (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the Service.
What the Service is
Puzzle Lantern is a collection of puzzle games played for entertainment. Each game offers one shared Daily puzzle and unlimited More puzzles rounds, with friends and global leaderboards.
Entertainment only. We make no claim that playing Puzzle Lantern sharpens, improves, maintains, or protects the brain; that it improves intelligence, memory, language ability, or cognitive health; that it prevents or delays any medical condition; or that it produces any benefit outside of playing the games themselves. Game and category names describe what you do in the game, not an effect on you. The Service is not a medical, diagnostic, educational, or assessment tool, and no result in it is a measurement of your abilities.
Your account
We create a pseudonymous account for you automatically when you first open the app. There is no signup, no password, and, for now, no email address attached to it. See our Privacy Policy for what that account holds.
- The account is tied to credentials held in your device’s secure storage. Keep your device secure; anyone with access to it has access to your account.
- Do not sell, rent, or transfer your account, and do not create multiple accounts to gain an advantage on leaderboards.
- You may delete your account at any time from Settings. Because no email is attached, deletion is permanent and the account cannot be recovered.
- You must be at least [13] years old, or the minimum age required in your country, to use the Service.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break the law with the Service, or use it to harass, threaten, abuse, defame, or impersonate anyone;
- submit results you did not earn by playing (see Fair play below);
- reverse engineer, decompile, tamper with, or modify the app or its traffic, except where that right cannot be excluded by law;
- use bots, scrapers, automation, solvers, emulated input, or modified clients to play, to submit results, or to collect data from the Service;
- attack the Service: probe or breach its security, bypass rate limits or authentication, or overload the infrastructure;
- abuse invite links, for example by mass-generating them or distributing them as spam;
- resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the Service or its puzzles without our written permission.
Display names and other players
You choose your own display name, and it can be seen by other players on leaderboards. You are responsible for what you put there. Display names must not be obscene, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, or designed to impersonate another person, a brand, or us.
Wherever a player-supplied name appears, the app provides Report and Block controls. Blocking removes that player from your view. Reporting sends the name to us for review. We may reset an offending display name, remove an account from leaderboards, suspend it, or terminate it. We review reports as promptly as we reasonably can, and we may act on our own initiative too.
Friendships are created only through invite links. You may remove or block a friend at any time.
Fair play and leaderboards
Leaderboards only mean something if the results on them are real. Every ranked result is validated by our server, using the puzzle we issued and the play data submitted with the result. We may reject, exclude, or remove any result that fails validation, that is implausible, or that appears to come from automation, a modified client, a tampered clock, or a shared or leaked puzzle.
Where cheating is repeated or deliberate, we may remove an account from leaderboards permanently or terminate it. We are not obliged to explain the specifics of our detection, and our determination is final. If you think a result was excluded in error, contact us.
Daily puzzles are generated and published automatically. We may correct, replace, or void a Daily puzzle and its leaderboard if it is found to be invalid, ambiguous, or unfairly distributed.
Subscriptions and purchases
[PLACEHOLDER: finalise before enabling purchases. Substitute the real product names, prices, trial length, and entitlements.]
Parts of the Service may be offered as an optional paid subscription ([PRODUCT NAME]). If you subscribe:
- payment is charged to your Apple App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase;
- the subscription renews automatically at the then-current price for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period;
- your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period;
- you manage and cancel the subscription in your store account settings (Apple App Store or Google Play), not in the app. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription;
- any unused portion of a free trial, where one is offered, is forfeited when you buy a subscription;
- refunds are handled by the store under its own policy, not by us;
- we may change prices or the contents of a plan going forward, with notice before the change affects your renewal.
A subscription never buys an advantage in a ranked Daily puzzle or a better position on a leaderboard.
Our content and yours
The Service, its games, puzzle generators, artwork, and branding are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for your own non-commercial entertainment. You keep whatever rights you have in the display name you choose, and you grant us the licence needed to show it to other players within the Service.
Availability and changes
We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue games, features, or the Service as a whole. We may need to take the Service down for maintenance. We do not promise that the Service will always be available, uninterrupted, or free of errors, or that a puzzle will always be delivered on time.
Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from Settings. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms, or where we must do so by law. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that results, statistics, streaks, or leaderboard positions will be preserved without loss.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any right you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of your country.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost streaks, or lost profits, arising out of your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or [AMOUNT].
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top and, for material changes, tell you in the app. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION], and the courts of [VENUE] have jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory consumer protection rights you have where you live.
Apple and Google
These terms are between you and us, not with Apple or Google. The app store from which you obtained the app is not responsible for the Service or for support of it, and is not a party to these terms, though it may enforce them as a third-party beneficiary where its own rules require.
